Wednesday 16.09.2026<\/em><\/h5>\nToday we would like to draw your attention to an exciting IFiF research project: Prof:InSicht<\/strong>\nAn interdisciplinary team of female researchers at Munich University of Applied Sciences is investigating the visibility of female professors at universities of applied sciences \u2013 from sociological, economic and computer science perspectives. Using quantitative and qualitative research, the actions of actors from computer science and the social sciences are being analysed. Since online visibility is largely created by search engines and their selection mechanisms, the project also focuses on digital visibility achievements.\nThe aim is to make women at universities of applied sciences more visible and therefore more tangible as role models \u2013 and thus to attract more young women to an academic career at universities of applied sciences in the long term. Curiosity is more than just a feeling for Prof Dr Lara Schlaffke: it is the driving force behind her research and teaching. Lara Schlaffke has been Professor of Medical Engineering in the Department of Information Technology since autumn 2025. Her academic journey began in brain research. Today, her focus is on neurosciences, with the aim of making applications directly usable for clinical practice.<\/p>\nWhat also drives her? Inspiring students, awakening their curiosity and witnessing how interest turns into genuine enthusiasm.

Becoming a professor \u2013 women shape science \u2013 a digital exhibition<\/h3>\n

Although women now account for more than half of all degree and doctoral qualifications, they remain under-represented in professorial posts. Only around 30\u202f% (2024) of professorial posts in Germany are held by women \u2013 at universities of applied sciences (HAWen), the proportion is often even lower.<\/p>\n

The digital exhibition of the Project-PROfessur-Cooperating universities, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Harz University of Applied Sciences, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences and Merseburg University of Applied Sciences<\/strong> approaches 18 female professors<\/strong> into the spotlight. With personal insights, brief biographies and concise quotes, she makes the diversity of scientific career paths visible and shows: there isn't just one way into science. There are many.<\/p>\n

It is important for us that the exhibition creates visibility for female scientists that they deserve. Visible role models provide guidance, reduce apprehension, and encourage junior female scientists to forge their own paths. Because visibility is a key factor for equal opportunities, diversity, and scientific progress.<\/p>\n

In the PAGE online magazine<\/strong> was a great Interview with Professor Ulrike Br\u00fcckner of the University of Applied Sciences<\/strong> published, which at the FH Dortmund<\/strong> teaches.<\/p>\n

For Professor Ulrike Br\u00fcckner, teaching has surprisingly become a protected space for experimentation and a shift in perspective, which has allowed her to develop further creatively through reflection on her own working methods and the open, collegial nature of her department.<\/p>\n

The Prof:Me<\/em> Mentoring programme<\/h2>\n

The Office for Equal Opportunities at the Technical University has been organising and supporting a mentoring programme for women since 2022. The target group primarily includes early-career female academics (ranging from Master's students, doctoral candidates, and lecturers for special tasks, to newly appointed professors), but also female employees of THL who are interested in professional development. Women from outside TH L\u00fcbeck who are potentially interested in a professorship are also very welcome as mentees.<\/strong><\/p>\n

mentoring is a tool for individual talent development and offers support in professional and personal growth. At its core is the tandem relationship<\/strong> between the mentee and their mentor, a more experienced person. The accompanying optional Workshop offer <\/strong>offers mentees and mentors opportunities for self-reflection and skill enhancement. Through the exchange in the regular network meetings<\/strong> gain access to important networks and insider knowledge.<\/p>\n
